Debose wins ESPY, gets ready for Gator career Incoming
Gator freshman Andre Debose joined senior quarterback and former
Heisman winner Tim Tebow in winning an ESPY award at the Nokia Theatre
in Los Angeles. Debose was chosen along with incoming LSU freshman
quarterback Russell Shepard for the Under Armour All-America Moment.
The duo hooked up for a 92-yard touchdown pass in the Under Armour
All-American Game.By Paul KardaszDebose was mentioned
by Gator head coach Urban Myer as a “must have” recruit. While playing
under Mike Cullison at Seminole High School in Sanford (FL) the 5'11"
176 pound receiver accumulated more than 2,000 yards at wideout,
running back and quarterback while rushing for 1,332 yards on 117
carries and scoring 12 touchdowns. Also at quarterback, Debose
completed 25 of 44 pass attempts for 353 yards and four touchdowns.
Debose picked Florida over Florida State, Georgia, LSU, and Southern
Cal. He also chose not to join former Seminole teammates Ray Ray
Armstrong and Dyron Dye, both of whom chose Miami.Tebow beat out,
among others, 2008 Heisman winner Sam Bradford and MLB first round pick
Stephen Strasburg, becoming the first two-time winner of the ESPY for
College Male Athlete of the Year. Tebow was also a nominee for his
speech after the Gators’ loss to Ole Miss, their only loss of the
season.
